Fitting Prim Attachments
Since SL gives us the freedom to be all shapes and sizes, it is next to impossible to create prims that fit everyone “out of the box”. Usually some sort of adjustment is needed, but don’t worry, it is fairly easy to get the hang of.. once you know the tools/how they work. So read on if you’d like to learn! :)
Your first step should always be to make a backup copy of the object. Open your inventory, find the object you will be adjusting, right-click on it and select copy, right click again and choose paste. Now you’ll have an untouched prim, just in case something goes wrong. It may be a good idea to rename the object at this time as well. To do so, right click and choose rename.

Before you start you may want to restrict your movement; this will make adjustment easier. For this you’ll need to rez a pose disk. If you don’t have one, use or pick one up here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nyte%20N%20Day/70/121/24.
As you can see by the screen shot below, the collar looks like it’s sitting too low on my avatar. To fix this (while wearing the prim) right click on it and choose edit. Now you will see 3 arrows all pointing in different directions. In the case of this collar, the green arrow will move the object up and down, red: side to side, and blue: front to back. We will be using the green one, so click it and slide it upwards until it looks good. Remember to cam around your avatar from all angles to ensure a correct fit.
You may notice the belt also needs fitting. Camming around my avatar, you’ll notice it’s much too small.
To fix this problem we will need to stretch the belt to be larger. Start by right clicking and selecting edit. We don’t need to use the arrows to move it around…yet. So on the build/edit window select the radio button that says ’stretch’. The arrows should turn into white boxes. So, select one of the boxes and slide it away from your body.
Note 1: In the pictures below, I grabbed the upper right box and moved it outwards.
Note 2: Multiple prim objects will have white boxes surrounding it which means you’ll be scaling all the pieces of the object.
Right now, it wont fit at all….but it will be bigger! Now we’ll need to go back and adjust the position. So in the edit/build window click the position radio button. Adjust as necessary as mentioned above. This time I used the red and blue arrows. Notice how I’m moving the camera around to get a view of all sides.
At this point, the prim looks pretty good from the front and side. If I cam around to the back of my avatar, I see that its still not a perfect fit.
Since the front and back are well fitted, I do not want to make the whole thing bigger. I just want to stretch the back part out of my body. To accomplish this, look at the build/edit menu you’ll notice an ‘edit linked parts’ check box, tick the box. Now click on the piece you want to adjust. Notice the difference in yellow/blue outlines between the two pictures below. The first one is the whole object selected. The second picture is just the belt piece selected.
Now that I have the belt piece selected without the rest of the prims, I select the stretch radio button again. This time the boxes look different because when you select something alone…you can stretch it in every direction. The colors indicate direction that you can stretch. Blue: front to back. Red: side to side. Green: Up and down. I want to use the blue box in this case, pulling the belt out of my back.
Cam around your avatar and make sure everything else fits correctly. For this particular item I am done. However, you may need to repeat the steps as necessary. You may also need to rotate the object(s) which can be done by clicking the rotate radio button in the build/edit menu. I hope this will help you fit your attachments!
